The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Warsaw international mechanism for loss and damage associated with climate change impacts is expected to develop its initial two-year workplan for implementing the mechanism, including the scheduling of meetings. The meeting will be open to observers. The Warsaw international mechanism aims to: enhance knowledge and understanding of comprehensive risk management approaches to address loss and damage, including slow onset impacts; strengthen dialogue, coordination, coherence and synergies among relevant stakeholders; and enhance action and support, including finance, technology and capacity building. It is further expected to: support actions to address loss and damage; improve work coordination under the UNFCCC's existing bodies; convene meetings; develop, compile, analyze and review information; provide technical guidance and support; and make suggestions on enhancing engagement, actions and coherence under and outside the Convention. The Executive Committee will include balanced representation between developed and developing countries, including two representatives from each of the following Convention bodies: the Adaptation Committee, the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Expert Group, the Standing Committee on Finance, the Technology Executive Committee and the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention.
